Our History
Fibergrate began manufacturing in 1966 in the residential garage of William C. Coonrod where he created the first corrosion resistant molded fiberglass grating panel and incorporated his new business in the name of Fibergrate Corporation. Under his direction, throughout the next several years, Fibergrate expanded its product line to include FRP gratings in several configurations, stair treads, handrails, grating legs, and other structural products for use in corrosive environments. Fibergrate then branched out into the fabrication field to design, engineer and assemblies.
In 1972, Fibergrate moved the manufacturing facility in Stephenville, Texas 85 miles southwest of Dallas, retaining its corporate offices in Addison. Coonrod gradually transferred his attentions from general to financial management of the company, and in 1986, sold Fibergrate Corporation to its employees. In 1995, Fibergrate purchased another powerful name in the industry, Chemgrate Incorporated. With the combined efforts of these industry leaders, Fibergrate continued to grow and was noticed by an influential industrial company and investment group - RPM International Inc.
In 1996, Fibergrate was acquired by RPM International Inc. a company already familiar with the industrial marketplace. Today with the backing of RPM, a two billion dollar corporation, Fibergrate continues to grow and expand into new markets with innovative products and diverse applications.
